Overview

TAQUERIA LOS NORTEÑOS stands as a cherished gem in Phoenix, Arizona, nestled at 17404 N Cave Creek Rd. This humble taco spot captures the essence of authentic Mexican street food, focusing on bold flavors and traditional preparations without unnecessary frills. The atmosphere echoes the charm of a classic taco truck, complete with simple seating that invites diners to savor each bite without distraction.

The menu centers around their star dish: tacos crafted with tender, well-seasoned carne asada, shaved tripas, and adoba, all nestled inside freshly made corn tortillas, some with melted cheese for an added richness. The Corn Tortilla with Cheese and Steak offers a perfect balance of smoky, savory meat and creamy cheese, delivering a satisfying bite every time. Not to be missed are the Vampiros de Carne Asada, praised by visitors like William Nickol who found them "amazing" and among the best anywhere. These tacos stand out for their robust grilling notes and crisp tortilla base, embodying Northern Mexican flair.

Aside from tacos, there’s an array of complementary dishes such as Tacos Dorados and the hearty Papa Norteña topped with grilled steak, which offer texture and flavor variety to the discerning palate. The inclusion of traditional beverages like Agua de Horchata, Jamaica Water, and Pineapple Water rounds out the experience with refreshing contrasts to the rich, smoky meats. Alan Ortiz’s mention of the "bomb" horchata and the lively salsa bar—offering fresh options from mild to fiery—highlight attention to small yet impactful details that elevate each meal.

Service adds a warm touch to the culinary experience, with staff like Deya earning recognition for attentiveness in a space that feels like an extension of a Mexican neighborhood taqueria. Although some longtime patrons like Danny Sayegh have noticed shifts in flavor and kitchen leadership over time, TAQUERIA LOS NORTEÑOS remains a family-run establishment with a heartfelt commitment to quality.

This spot appeals to both locals craving authentic, no-nonsense tacos and visitors seeking a genuine taste of Northern Mexican street cuisine. It’s an ideal stop for casual dining where the focus remains on the food’s integrity—fresh, flavorful, and straightforward. As Andy Anderson celebrated, it’s "not a fancy place," yet it serves some of the best tacos you can find. Whether you’re a fan of grilled meats, traditional sides, or refreshing aguas frescas, TAQUERIA LOS NORTEÑOS invites you to experience the soul of Mexican tacos in a welcoming, unpretentious setting.

Fantastic place to come and have tacos. Deya was an excellent waitress. They have other stuff besides tacos so I’ll have to come back and try their other items. Been open about 3 months.

A few years back, this was the premier taco truck in the area, yet recently, there's been a noticeable dip in the quality and flavor. It seems they've switched chefs and recipes, which might explain the change. Despite this, I'm not inclined to leave a negative review since it's a small, family-run business that's consistently provided excellent service with a warm and welcoming staff. Plus, their tacos were outstanding in the past, and I regret not reviewing them then. I'm holding out hope they'll return to their former glory, serving up those tasty tacos once more. I still make occasional visits, nonetheless.

Its good, the portions are huge. Service is a little slow. The green salsa is probably the best. I dont like the plastic over the plates, and they use the cheap napkins. So I end up using like 10.
